“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.”– Joan Didion
Every Time You Tell Your Story
Every time you tell your story there is the chance to meet yourself as your self is being created. Every day is a practice run and each introduction is an opportunity to make connections with others, as well as learn from the choices, paths and plans of others. Be it professional, personal, social or more small-scale, such as an idea on how to approach a project with an inspired new method.
Every time you tell your story, you show your willingness, to be vulnerable, to share yourself with another, to show up prepared with your confidence. Sometimes just showing up can feel like the hardest part, until its second nature. Write down your story. Start by writing directly to someone with whom your relationship only requires the best version of yourself. Writing your story like you’d tell it with a beginning, middle and present. Acknowledge in this moment that your story is in the process of being written and that only time will tell how the end unfolds, and for every ending, there is a new beginning. Therein lies the beauty of life’s cyclical nature.
